Koi Photography This course is recommended for all levels of photographers. Course Description: Koi photography poses a unique set of challenges, even for experienced photographers. Whether shooting for a Koi show, or to document your own collection of Koi, nothing is so frustrating as to invest the time and effort catching and shooting your Koi, then having your pictures turn out badly. We will discuss the preparation, tools, techniques, and team you will need to get the shots you want.
Being able to reliably take high quality photos of your Koi will allow you to keep good records of your Koi's development from purchase to maturity. Photo histories are invaluable to learning how Koi develop over time, as well as learning the varieties of Koi, by sorting the photos and matching them up with Koi in books and magazines. It is also fun to show off your photos to your friends online and to make prints to pass around at Koi club meetings.
Plus, we all know how important the quality of a photo is in competing in Koi photo contests such as the AKCA Koi of the Year, Champion of Champions, and the World Wide Koi Club's Virtual Koi and Goldfish Show. Learning Objectives: Koi Keepers enrolling in this course will become familiar with:
Course Syllabus: Click HERE for a detailed Syllabus Required Materials: All students will need an email address and internet access to the K.O.I. Photography forum. A computer with high bandwidth capability is recommended, in order to transfer photos to and from the forum, and to attend the on-line meetings. A headset with microphone is required for on-line meetings so the student can hear the presentation and ask questions. This course is based on digital photography, primarily because that is what most people are shooting with today, and it facilitates sending photos in if you wish. If you use a 35mm camera, you will not miss anything except you would have to print and scan in your photos if you wished to submit them for discussion.
Camera Requirements: As with most things, better tools make for better results and easier work. This is true with koi photography in spades. If you have a point and shoot camera, you will enjoy the class and learn, but you will not get the same results as if you have a digital SLR, although this is changing as point and shoot lag time is getting shorter and shorter. If you have an external flash attachment, same story - better results, but not mandatory.
This is a long answer to say, if you have a camera, you can take the class, but you will have the greatest success if you have a digital SLR. Mine is just 6.3 megapixels, and it is fine so whatever SLR you have will work. (Yes I want more but ...)
