Robo Fish

In early June 2010, CNN ran a story about a robotic fish being developed by the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. The intention is to produce a robot fish that can function as a leader and guide a school fish in a way that is desirable to whoever is controlling the robot.

The engineers that are developing the robotic fish studied characteristics of school leaders and have incorporated what they discovered into their designs.

Here’s a robot fish leading a school of real fish

One current use of this technology might be to guide fish away from the potentially lethal effects of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
